The IT sector in Estonia in general and Tartu in particular, which includes creation of software, providing services and production of hardware, is in the phase of rapid development. Tartu has one of the biggest and strongest software development clusters in Baltic States. There are about 125 IT companies in Tartu – the growth has been fast over the previous years and it continues. The estimated turnover exceeds 30 million euros and the number of employees is well over 1000. The small population, tech-smart in a leading edge IT environment makes Estonia a great test-bed for new and innovative technologies. A new generation of high-tech entrepreneurs and workforce are attracting foreign investments notably from Scandinavian countries and beyond.
